Confidentiality
Your privacy is important. What you share in therapy stays confidential except in a few rare, legally defined situations.
In accordance with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), I am legally and ethically obligated to maintain your confidentiality. This means that for the most part, everything we discuss will be kept confidential. However, there are a few limits to this confidentiality in which I am obligated to disclose client information. These limits are:
- If you tell me that someone who is presently a minor or vulnerable adult has been harmed or is at risk of harm.
- If I am concerned that you are at imminent risk of harming yourself or others.
- If my files are subpoenaed by a court of law.
Additionally, if you report personal psychological injuries that occurred at the workplace I may be required to report this to the Workers Compensation Board (WCB) as per section 34(1) of the WCA, and the Health Professions Act.
